In our quest of bringing our unique compositions to life, TPC has been writing collectively for over fifteen years. We began ur collaborative works as a performance poetry ensemble, the Cosmic Blend, penning and showcasing a great number of poems in numerous entertainment venues throughout Los Angeles, Hollywood and surrounding areas, including Las Vegas, Nevada. The popularity of our poetic works prompted us to move into the arena of writing and producing staged plays, and from 1996 to this present date, we have been creating and mounting theatrical productions throughout the Southland, such as “Return”, a gospel musical drama; “Fiancee of VooDoo.” an African fairytale; “DaRoot” a gospel drama; “Mood Swings”, and “Sweetwater Blues”, both choreopoems. Our greatest writing and producing achievement, thus far, has been the creation of the 1940’s Jazz Musical, “North On South Central Ave.”(NOSC), a story depicting the famous Club Alabam located on Los Angeles’ Central Avenue in the 1940’s, frequented by many of the great jazz legends of our time. NOSC has been favorably reviewed by all the major media sources in Los Angeles. Compared, by the Los Angeles Times reviewer, to the hit musical “Chicago”, “a cinema extravaganza waiting to be developed.” At the 2004 NAACP Theatre Awards, NOSC received nine out of sixteen nominations, and as a collective of writers on this project, we were nominated in the category of Best Playwrights. Inevitably, we were the recipients of four top awards; Best Sound, Best Costumes, Best Ensemble and Best Director. Out of this great musical production was birthed “The Club Alabam Revue,” an exciting production featuring many of the musical geniuses who performed on both the east and west coasts during the 40’s and 50’s along with an outstanding troupe of cabaret dancers. During our writing career, we have been commissioned to create several narrative writings for local area political dignitaries, and in addition, we received commendations from the Cities of Los Angeles, Long Beach and Santa Monica for our outstanding written contributions toward the preservation of history and the performing arts. TPC has spent the past two years developing a tribute to Loretta Mary Aikens (aka) Jackie Moms Mabley, the “Queen of Sass”, and the first African American Female Stand-Up comedian who had an extraordinary presence during Vaudeville, the Roaring 20’s, and throughout the Civil Rights eras. Our latest creation entitled “Howlin Blues and Dirty Dogs” (depicts the life of the legendary Blues artist Big Mama Thornton). In keeping with our vision, “perception is everything” we feel our work thus far in theatre aptly fulfills our commitment and objective to uplift and unite cultures. It is an honor and a challenge for us to create worthwhile literature with valuable historical content, and we are anxious to bring these wonderful creations to the stage, the community, and to the forefront of the entertainment industry. TPC strives to maintain a standard of excellence in the creation, and presentation of our collaborative endeavors, making the passionate promise to promote only the highest quality, affordable, positive, multi-cultural, and ethnic artistic expressions.
