Native of Texas, a professional Executive Assistant in the Corporate arena, and entrepreneur who maximized the potential growth of several businesses within the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, including several poetry venues. In the late eighties, Carla embarked upon a solo performance career as an actress and performance poetry artist, rendering her work at theatrical venues throughout Los Angeles and surrounding areas including the famous “Hollywood Roxy” and in Las Vegas, Nevada. Carla has starred in numerous staged productions in well-established venues throughout the Southland. She is also co-author and co-producer of several theatrical productions mounted in the areas of Los Angeles, Hollywood, Palos Verdes, Victorville, Santa Monica, and Long Beach. Carla has also worn the hats of director, assistant director and stage manager for several West Coast Theatre Premiers. She was the director, as well as, co-author of the Award Winning Musical, “North On South Central Ave” (1940’s jazz musical) which has been staged throughout Southern California. For her work on this project, she was awarded “Best Director” by the 2004 NAACP Theatre Awards, and she also received nominations in the categories of “Best Director of a Musical” and “Best Playwright”. This great musical received three other top awards, “Best Sound,” “Best Costumes” and “Best Ensemble.” Her work has been favorably reviewed by all the major media sources in Los Angeles, and she has also received proclamations from the Cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach for her work in theatre relative to the preservation of Los Angeles history, and the performing arts. In addition, she is co-author of a book of poetry and short stories, published in 1994, and she has completed her first film script. A direct descendant of the Civil Rights Movement, she has just completed her first novel, entitled “Precious Memories”, and is working on her second book effort scheduled to be completed in 2009. As a Playwright, Carla continues to create and mount theatre productions with TPC on a regular basis.
